With the 2025 Fistball Australia National Championships coming up again in December, it’s time to announce the location of this year’s event... and we're excited to announce that Australia’s best fistballers will be heading to Canberra!
Fresh off its ranking as the “city with the best quality of life” by Oxford Economics’ Global Cities Index, the nation’s capital is about to discover that it can get even better, with what will surely be the most talked-about event around the roundabouts since the unveiling of the Big Powerful Owl.
Now, this might come as a surprise to some (“We have fistball in Canberra?!”
), but behind the scenes, Fistball Australia has been quietly working with our sporting frenemies—Volleyball ACT—over the past 12 months in an opportunistic and incredibly exciting partnership to develop ‘grass volleyball’ (aka fistball) in the 'Berra.Thanks to significant grant funding received by Volleyball ACT, and with Aussie national fistballer Lewis ‘Juppy’ Jupp now employed to run their three-year 'grass volleyball' program, FiFA has been afforded a golden chance to spread the good word of fistball across the ACT!
Here’s what can be confirmed so far:
Date: This year's Nationals tournament will run over TWO days - Saturday, December 6th and Sunday, December 7th!
Competitions: We’re aiming to introduce a separate women’s competition for the first time! We’ll need at least three teams for it to go ahead, so if you're interested, rally your squad—we’d love to see it happen. The men’s/open division will return as in previous years.
Venue: The tournament will likely be held in Lyneham, Canberra, right next door to Volleyball ACT headquarters (oh, to have a fistball ‘headquarters’ 
…), but these details will be confirmed closer to the date.This tournament will also serve as the primary exhibition event for 2026 Australian national team selection consideration, so we’re hoping the best of the best will be there to throw their best fists forward in the nation’s capital in December.
Final team nominations will be due in November. More info to come.
